  • To develop an understanding about the Central Powers and the Allies leading up to World War One and how the War was caused.

  • To learn about the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo in June 1914 and to understand how this was a key moment in the causes of the First World War.

  • To develop an understanding about the soldiers involved and the propaganda programme.

  • To develop an understanding about the reality behind trench warfare and what life was like in the trenches.

  • To develop an understanding about the changes in warfare such as tanks, airplanes, machine guns and battleships.

  • War at sea, war in the desert & spies.

  • Women at war.

  • Key battles such as Verdun, Ypres and the Somme.

  • Armistice & peace.

  • War Poetry.

  • To develop an understanding about how World War One affected all countries around the world and how it ended.
