Year 5

History is about more than just what happened, although the stories are very important.

In Year 5, children learn many more stories about Britain and the world, but also start to develop an understanding of sources and the need to evaluate information rather than taking it all at face value.

Curriculum:

In Year 5, we learn about the birth of modern Britain, from the death of Elizabeth I to the reign of Victoria. In the Autumn term, we study the Stuarts, including events of the period and the lives of the ordinary people that they affected. In the Spring term, we look at the Georgian period and the great changes in British society, agriculture and industry during this time. In the Summer term, we study the Victorians and the shaping of the world we live in today.

Topics:

  • Autumn: The Stuarts

  • Spring: The Georgians

  • Summer: The Victorians
