History
Aims and Objectives of the History Department.
Promote, above all else, a love and enjoyment of History.
Develop empathy (the ability to imagine what it was like to be a person in the past, and to use that empathy to understand different cultures and attitudes today)
Enable pupils to discover information through reading, listening, experiencing and observing, using both primary and secondary sources as appropriate.
Enable pupils to organise information and communicate their findings, using historical terms correctly.
Enable pupils to evaluate information and recognise opinions and bias and enable them to start thinking critically about source materials.
Develop a wider understanding of social relationships.
Learn how to use time indicators correctly and develop an understanding of timelines.
Enable pupils to learn by looking at buildings, art and artefacts from the past, relating them to the people who made and used them.
Enable pupils to understand the relevance of past issues to present–day problems, and to consider present values in an historical context.
Broaden pupils’ knowledge of famous people and events.
